I love visiting Nuremberg to attend the Embedded World show, and this year it was sunny, and I mean really sunny - there wasn’t a snow flake in sight ! Not sure I'll need all of the layers of clothing I brought with me, in fact I wish I'd brought sunglasses!

I'm looking forward to checking out all of the new demos that are being shown at the ARM booth this year - we're in Hall 4, booth number 350, so pop by if you want to try and catch up with any of the ARM team that are over for the show this year.
As usual the show is taking place at the same time as Mobile World Congress over in Barcelona as mentioned by my good friend fergie in the pre-show blog. Both shows are really big events for ARM, with one focussing on the deeply embedded side of the business and the other on the mobile solutions side. My ARMFlix buddy katiemorgan has written a blog about the step challenge that is taking place at MWC whereby four ARM colleagues will be tracking their steps whilst at the show - more details are over at ARM Step Challenge: “Who is the ‘hardest working’ at MWC?” - needless to say I'm also tracking my steps over here for a bit of extra competition - it'll be interesting to see who has the busiest show :-)
For the first day of the show I've been catching up with business friends and connections from within the ARM Connected Community. We filmed many of these and will post them on the ARMFlix Embedded World 2014 playlist as they become available.
There was some great news from the show as ARM were awarded the best Hardware product at the show in recognition of the work that has gone into the ARMv8-R Architecture.
Today I got to chat with Ross Bannatyne from NXP where he talked with me about the new LPC1500 product that has just been released by NXP.
I also met with a team from STMicroelectronics who talked with me about the brand new ARM Cortex-M0+ based STM32L0 ultras low power MCU family and the new high performance ARM Cortex-M4 based members of the STM32 family. At the booth they had a great IoT wall demonstrating a number of products that are well established in the market including fitness bands and smart watches.
Sticking with the theme of IoT, I also met with Jean Louis Dolmeta who gave me some insight into some of the history of the Freescale i.MX family, based on processors from the ARM Cortex-A family, and how it has targetted high performance IoT applications.
Right now I'm off to enjoy my favourite meal of Nuremberg sausages and sauerkraut, with a huge dollop of strong mustard, and enjoy a refreshing beer or two, to set myself up for another busy day on the show floor tomorrow.
Thanks for the shout out, Andy. I found the video about NXP's part's focus on motor control very interesting. Market estimates are that around 40% of energy on the planet goes towards controlling motors, so anything that clever electronics can do to (positively) impact that number is a good thing. Great to hear about the GUI based software tools they have developed to make it easier for their customers to deploy the LPC1500 in such applications.
That reminds me of andymoore's motor control demo at Embedded World 2011.
Andy used the additional instructions of the ARM Cortex-M4 (vs. ARM Cortex-M3) to implement field-oriented control. Not only saving loads of energy, it also increases the reliability and decreases pollution (noise/vibration).
As you say, great idea that NXP made it easy to integrate motor control with a GUI, software and kit. Not everyone has the necessary maths skills!!!
On top of reducing the time to develop the application, it will be great to see the difference in power consumption.
